He came up with this idea after seeing the crowd of his colleagues looking at the menu card to order food in the Cafeteria of his company. He discussed it with his friend Pankaj Chaddha scanned the menu card and put it on the website. Then Deepinder decided to create a website and mobile app.
Deepinder Goyal and Pankaj Chaddha started the portal Foodiebay.com in 2008 while still working. He quit his job as the business expanded and renamed Foodiebay to Zomato in 2010. In 2011 the business expanded to the whole of India and in 2012 they started expanding their business to other countries as well. Sanjeev Bikchandani had invested in the initial period and then Deepinder’s small startup was transformed into Zomato. Then investors like Tiger Global Management and Jack Ma invested. Today Zomato provides services in 24 countries. Now Zomato is in more than 1000 Indian cities.
